Newborn photography Geelong

Before I became a parent, I used to hear parents always comment on how quick their  newborn child had grown and how in a wink of an eye their baby was at school. My first thought was always, time doesn’t go any faster or any slower for anyone…so I don’t get it. Fast forward a few years and now I’m a parent as well and boy oh boy was I very wrong,  they do grow really quickly!! It feels like one minute you’re in the delivery room waiting for this new little baby to emerge and then you blink and they’re crawling and trying to walk and talk. So I made it a point when my daughter was born to photograph her every three months. Apart from the thousands of photos we’ve taken with our small camera and phone, every three months we bring her into the studio and do a portrait session with her. She made me work for it the very first time we did this, but now she enjoys it, it’s more like a game than a photo session. Ok, I totally understand, not everyone is going to want to have their child photographed every three months (mainly because any “spare” time that parents have involves trying to catch up on things!) But, considering how precious your little child is, taking four hours over the course of a year to have them photographed, isn’t a lot of time. I can guarantee it’ll be time well spent.  So drawing on inspiration from my daughter, I was able to create something that I think is pretty unique in Geelong. The ability to record a child’s life over a period of time. Being that every moment you have with your child is precious, what if you could pause a moment? Not literally of course (I wish I could though!!) but pause in the sense of being able to hold on to a memory that your child creates forever. So I came up with my Moment in Time sessions. This is something that you really need to see to fully understand how beautiful and precious it really is. Portraits and albums that capture your child in a very special and unique way. You are more than welcome to visit the studio to view these beautiful products (appointments advisable, you can click Here to make a time), but hopefully this short video clip can help explain what I mean. For those of you that aren’t aware, my albums are hand made in Italy by some very clever people who use some very beautiful materials to put the albums together. That’s even more reason to come in and have a look. And, if all that wasn’t enough, all my wall portraits now come with a lifetime guarantee. That means that even if you damage the portrait by accident, you’re covered! How many places offer that sort of guarantee??  I hope you enjoy viewing this video clip as much as I enjoyed capturing the special moments in this child’s life.

Remember, if you want to stay in touch with all that’s happening at the studio, you can join my Facebook page or simply click Here and fill out the form so I can email you when any specials are happening.

Newborn & child portraits Geelong

One of the most rewarding aspects of being a newborn and child photographer is seeing the child grow. Mind you, it does get a bit scary when you receive a phone call from one of those “children” who then asks if you can do a portrait of her and her boyfriend (I’m not that old am I?) I only realised how important and how rewarding seeing the final images of a portrait session was after our daughter was born. In an age when millions of photos are taken every day, it’s still nice to know that there are people out here who value high quality photography. How many of you take thousands of photos on your phones? I bet most of you reading this do. But how many of you then print those photos out? I bet not many. Years ago, some smart cookie invented a frame that you could stick a memory card into and watch your photos, so you wouldn’t need to print them out. Great!! What a brilliant idea…except if you’re like me and have one, you just never turn it on…but I still have printed portraits of my daughter hanging on my wall both at home and in my office. So what does that tell you? Portraits have been around for a long long time and will still be around long after CD’s have disappeared and memory cards have been replaced with whatever is coming next. So it’s great to take a photo of your child on your phone, it’s usually the one thing that we all have with us constantly !! But whats more important is to have a professional record of a moment in time which will never happen again. So, I have added to this blog post a series of portraits that I have photographed over the course of a couple of years. I bet that while you’re  watching it you think of  your own child. Their smile, their laughs and that beautiful shine in their eyes when they see you first thing in the morning or when you get home from work. There’s nothing really quite like it is there!!

I hope you enjoy watching this as much as I enjoyed capturing these moments for the parents. Don’t forget to sign up Here for regular updates, or by clicking Here for any bookings.

Styled wedding Video

Thanks to Video Vault, you can now take a look at the video clip from our styled vintage wedding photography shoot.  As I mentioned in a previous blog post, the shoot was a collaboration by a few different businesses in and around the Geelong area. The video obviously show’s what happened on the day, but as we all know, a lot of the magic that occurs in photos these days happens well after the photos are taken. Having said that, I am a firm believer that 95% of the work needs to be done when the photo is taken. Anything else that happens in Photoshop later is purely there to enhance the photo, not make it better. Incase you missed it and would like to see a few images that were taken on the day, click Here to view my previous blog post. I think that sometimes couples who are organising their wedding don’t realise how important it is to book businesses that can work well together. For instance, I always make a point of asking couples who is doing their flowers, hair and make up, mainly because what I need to get done at the brides house prior to the service, is so reliant on these other services. I’m sure that anyone else that collaborated on this project would tell you the exact same thing. Always talk to your photographer and tell them what other services you are using, because it can make a big difference on the day. Thank you also once again to Beachside Blooms Florist, Embrace Bridal Boutique, Ivy Creations Hair by Harbour, Oakdene Winery and obviously Video Vault for all their work on the collaboration.

Styled vintage wedding Geelong

I was fortunate enough to be part of a styled vintage bridal shoot in Geelong recently. This is a bit different to a wedding day in that the hair and make up stylists are on hand as is the dress supplier and the florist. Normally on a wedding day, it’s usually just myself and the videographer. Now I know what most of you are thinking, not another vintage wedding. I know, I know, that’s the trend at the moment..that and cutting off the couples heads (really??), which believe me, you will never see one of this photos here on this blog..ever!! Our vintage shoot was a little different though because even though that was the feel that we all set out to achieve, I was allowed to do whatever I liked. Now that’s the sort of shoot I like!! So basically I could put my own spin on the shoot. Perfect!! So I could photograph with vintage in mind, but add my own touch of Hollywood #glamour to the photos.  The location was  chosen, very carefully mind you, and we headed down to Oakdene. For those of you that don’t know where this is, it’s in Wallington, about 20 minutes out of Geelong.  There were so many spots to choose from where I could set up, I think I could’ve spent the whole weekend photographing different looks there!! The flowers were designed by Shelley from Beachside Blooms. They fitted the look perfectly we were after perfectly. Any wonder Shelley and her team have won the Australian Bridal Industry awards multiple times over the last few years.   The dresses were supplied by the girls at Embrace Bridal Boutique. Have you popped in and had a look at their range of bridal gowns?? Stunning…that’s all that really needs to be said.  It was great to work with such talented people. Hair and make up was done by the girls at Ivy Creations hair on Harbour and finally, what would a wedding shoot be like if I wasn’t working with my good friend Mio from Video Vault. After having worked alongside Mio for many years at weddings, I know the shot he needs and he knows that it’s usually best to keep out of my way on a wedding day, so we work perfectly together!! haha..only joking Mio!! You can see some of Mio’s wedding video’s on his Facebook page. So below are a few images from our shoot. I hope you enjoy them as much as we enjoyed creating them. More images will follow along with Mio’s video of the days shoot.

Geelong glamour photography

I’ve been working on a new style of Glamour photography for a few months now. Something that pushes the boundaries a little and is totally different to what I’m seeing a lot of at the moment, which is basically a rehashed version of glamour in the eighties! Unlike other glamour photography, which you may have seen, the style I have created is more like an art portrait of yourself. It’s something that is truly unique in Geelong and, more importantly, more unique to you as every piece is a one off. How do I do that? A special planning session is organised prior to your sitting where we sit down and work out your style. This is probably the most important part of the session as you tell me what you’d like and I convert it to a fine art. Your only limit is your imagination! Some women though aren’t exactly sure what they want, and that is why our planning session is so important. Everything from what you’ll wear to how it will all happen will be planned out. On the day of the shoot, you’re encouraged to bring a friend and have some fun. I’ve found that because of the planning, most women settle into the session quite quickly and any butterflies they may have quickly disappear. The session itself takes approximately forty five minutes. Photography by Riccardo can also organise your make up and hair for you, or you may choose to do that yourself. For more information and pricing, please feel free to Contact he studio.

Geelong photographer war veterans project.

As many of you who follow my Facebook page may have seen, I am one of only two photographers in the Geelong region who is taking part in the AIPP’s Reflections Program. From the onset when this project was announced, I wanted to be a part of it. In a nutshell, we are looking to create a portrait of every ex servicemen and women who served during World War II.

There are over 14,000 World War II Veterans estimated to be living in Australia and we are inviting them to be photographed as part of one of the most ambitious photographic projects ever undertaken in Australia – to commemorate our unsung heroes of World War II in print. Obviously I won’t be photographing all 14,000 of them! Myself along with another local photographer have registered to cover the Greater Geelong region.

On completion, the Australian Institute of Professional Photography (AIPP) project entitled Reflections: Honouring our World War II Veterans, will provide a compelling pictorial record of returned servicemen and women living in Australia for the Australian War Memorial archives. The project is being undertaken by professional photographers across the country that have been accredited by the AIPP. We are donating our time and talent in a unique community project. Any profit from the resale of photographs will be donated to Legacy and the RSL Foundation.

“The AIPP wanted to honour veterans, whether from Australia or elsewhere, as living tributes to a time of heroism and nationalistic pride, by capturing and publishing their portraits in print. “What better time to capture our living heroes than now as we commemorate 100 years of the ANZAC tradition and the 70th anniversary of the end of WWII,” “Letters and printed photographs meant absolutely everything to them back then, telling the story of their lives in their youth. It’s only fitting to contrast this with their senior years in the same way, in a timeless gift to them, their families and the nation.”

In this digital age when images can be lost in an instant, photographers know it’s the power of quality photographic prints that will live on, capturing a person, a moment in time and preserving it forever.

Each veteran will receive a complimentary Kodak printed portrait in a presentation folder to commemorate their service given some 75 years ago. Anyone who served in World War II is encouraged to register for their free portrait at www.aippveterans.com or call AIPP on (03) 9888 4111

Finally, as I mentioned, everything I am doing here is being donated. Time, talent the lot. For me it’s about honouring my late Grandfather who fought in WWII and was a prisoner of war in Russia. We were fortunate enough that he came back from the war but sadly passed away in 1983. May he Rest in Peace.

Wedding photography by Riccardo

March is generally the busiest month in Geelong for wedding photography, and this year has been no different. I have been fortunate enough to have been able to photograph in some stunning locations this year. Everywhere from beautiful beaches to mansions. And I can honestly say,  myself and the bridal parties had an absolute awesome time in the process! One of my favourite things as a photographer is when I get to create a piece of art for my couples, something that they will treasure for years to come. Going with this philosophy, I have introduced a new package into my wedding collection. Something that is affordable to every bridal couple yet at the same time, gives them a unique piece of art from their wedding day. As with all my wedding products, the new piece will be hand manufactured in Italy. I will have the new album and package at the upcoming bridal wedding expo, so if you’re going to be there on the day, make sure you pop over and have a look. What makes this album so unique? Well, wedding photography (for 95% of photographers that are around at the moment) follows a formula. After the service, you quickly dash to as many locations in and around Geelong as you possibly can to get as many photographs as possible and quickly dash back to the reception….there’s a lot of rushing around. Do you really want to remember your wedding for all the rushing around? Or would you rather remember it for the art work that hangs on your walls for years to come? I know which I’d rather have. The new album is a game changer and takes the focus off the rushing around and puts the emphasis on the art. Of course, this is just one of four personally designed packages that I have available and you really need to see which is best suited for your wedding day.  So, if you’re planning a wedding and you want to find out more, Contact the studio to organise a chat. As this product is exclusive to Photography by Riccardo, it will be available to persons visiting the studio only. Below are a few images from recent weddings.

Newborn photography Geelong

This is one of my most favourite things to photograph, a newborn child in their fathers arms. I don’t think that first time parents realise how quickly children grow and change. I often get asked when the best time to photograph a newborn baby after birth is and I always give the parents this guideline, if you want the real newborn baby look, then try and get it within the first five days and certainly no later than two weeks after the birth. With some new mums now staying in hospital for the first five days, the best advice I can give you is to contact the studio at least two weeks prior to your due date so we can make arrangements for me to visit the hospital. There is so much happening in the days after the birth, that many parents that I talk to afterwards say that they would’ve loved to have had a photograph of their child, but simply forgot.  Photography by Riccardo is happy to schedule a hospital visit for you, so those first few days in your new babys life aren’t missed.  Plus, as an added bonus, newborn hospital visits at either the Geelong hospital or St. John of God hospital are free. You can also register yourself or a friend at my new Baby Club page on Facebook. Baby club allows you to send a gift certificate to a friend who is expecting a baby as a gift from you to have their portraits taken. Best of all, it doesn’t cost you a thing or the first $50 of the Gift Certificate! Simply fill in their details and we’ll send them a $50 gift certificate totally free, no catches or hidden costs. The certificate states that it is a gift from you and nowhere does it say that it’s a free service.  You can register yourself if you’re expecting as well and, if you have any questions, you can contact me Here. I have had people ask if they can send gift certificates of greater value and the answer is yes, you just need to contact the studio so that this can be arranged.

Geelong photography – Weddings

Seems like it wasn’t that long ago that I photographed Carene and Damien’s wedding, but today they celebrate their fourth anniversary. I thought I’d put together a short clip of their wedding day, so they can take a trip down memory lane! I have been told more than once by couples that I have photographed that they make a point of getting their wedding album out on their anniversary and reliving the day. I actually saw a couple in Geelong on the weekend who’s wedding I’d photographed about 14 years ago. they told me that even to this day, they still have their wedding album out on their coffee table and open so that every day they can look back and remember. That’s just living proof that wedding albums should be out and admired and not tucked away in a box. Anyway, hope you enjoy Carene and Damien’s wedding day in the following clip.
